India Commissions First Indigenous Diving Support Vessel
According to the Indian Defense Ministry, “DSC A20 is the lead ship in a series of five Diving Support Craft being built by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), Kolkata.” The ministry emphasized that the ship was “purpose-built for a wide spectrum of diving and underwater missions in coastal waters” and is fitted with advanced, cutting-edge diving technology that ensures maximum safety and operational effectiveness.
The DSC A20 is anticipated to become a vital operational resource within the Navy’s fleet. Its commissioning aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ program, highlighting the nation’s commitment to self-reliance in defense production.
The Defense Ministry further noted that the platform represents “seamless collaboration between the Indian Navy, the indigenous shipbuilding industry, and national research organizations in delivering specialized, technologically advanced vessels.”
India has set ambitious goals to expand its naval strength, aiming for more than 200 warships and submarines by 2035, with projections to reach 230 by 2037.
